Princeton University, Mechanical Project Engineer
The Mechanical Project Engineer is a member of the Mechanical Systems Group, within the Facilities Engineering and Campus Energy Department, and reports to the Director of Mechanical Systems Group. Depending on the size of the project, the Mechanical Systems Group may be responsible for the design, installation, commissioning and/or maintenance of campus building mechanical systems.
The Mechanical Project Engineer will be the authority on the mechanical systems in their set of assigned campus buildings (approximately 40 buildings of various types). The engineer is expected to know the types and arrangements of HVAC systems, the areas they serve, sequence of operations, general or specific condition of equipment (age, shortcomings), building service locations, location of isolation devices, and source of thermal and electrical power. Also, the Mechanical Project Engineer shall be familiar with the buildings’ plumbing, fire protection, and lab systems. This position will also require a general familiarity with all campus buildings.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME).
- Five (5) years relevant experience.
- Some field experience required.
- Background in building HVAC design and construction.
- Versed in Engineering Economics, Construction Safety, Customer/Client Management, Project Management, Construction contracts and Sustainability issues.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and analytical skills.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Able to conduct investigations in buildings and utility tunnels.
- Able to safely navigate construction sites.
- Able to safely climb an 8-foot ladder.
- Available for work during non-working hours as required by the project schedule or emergencies.
- Able to work outdoors on investigative work.
- Position is essential as defined by Human Resources and Facilities policies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with HVAC BAS DDC or PLC controls.
- Experience in ground source heat pump design and construction.
- Demonstrated computer and software skills including building energy modeling programs.
- Professional Engineering License or EIT in New Jersey.
- Advanced coursework in business related field or engineering.
- Experience in steam system design.
- Certified LEED Professional.
- Certified project management professional.

Dartmouth College, Senior Electrical Engineer
Position Purpose:
Participates in all aspects of day-to-day operations of the Dartmouth College engineering office. The position is supervised by the Engineering Design Manager. The FO&M engineering office strives to provide high quality engineering services for a wide range of projects and clients, including working with Project Managers on in-house design and renovation projects, working with FO&M shops on system upgrades, improvements, replacements, and O&M procedures, assisting with design and analysis of energy efficiency projects, and providing review and technical oversight of projects designed by outside consultants. The activities of the Sr. Electrical Engineer may include design reviews, field investigations, existing systems assessment, electrical, lighting and lighting control system design and layout, equipment selection and specification, drafting, code review, calculations including spreadsheet analyses and use of engineering software, writing control system sequences of operation, construction administration, and commissioning services.
Required Qualifications – Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical or architectural engineering technology, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ten plus years of supervised electrical design and drafting with an MEP consulting firm, or the equivalent.
- Registered Professional Electrical Engineer in New Hampshire, or the ability to become registered in New Hampshire within one year.
- Familiarity with all aspects of low voltage (480 V or less) electrical design, including calculations and field experience. Experience with fire alarm and network communications systems a plus. Experience with higher voltage (4160 V to 13.2 kV) systems a plus.
- Experience with energy efficient lighting and electrical system design and control strategies.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve problems associated with the operation and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
- High level of proficiency with AutoCAD drafting software. Proficiency with 3D drafting software such as Revit is a plus.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Detail oriented self-starter with good interpersonal and decision making skills.
- Ability to relate well with a diverse group of constituents and to build strong relationships within and among those groups.

Description
Seeking an individual with a mechanical engineering degree and knowledge in all aspects of HVAC, piping and plumbing. Capable of performing building system field surveys, code review and design/layout of plumbing and HVAC systems for commercial and industrial applications. This candidate should also understand equipment selection, control system sequences of operation and construction administration services. Proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD preferred. Candidate shall have excellent communication skills and thrive in a team environment.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Developing detailed mechanical designs from field input.
- Developing steam, chilled water, hot water and plumbing designs from conception.
- Reviewing and verifying adequacy of designs and drawings generated by others.
- Producing construction specifications for all trades.
- Sizing and selecting mechanical equipment.
- Running heat loss/gain calculations.
- Training engineering technicians in good engineering practices.
- Scheduling engineering projects with the engineering team.
- Developing sales proposals with system descriptions and drawings.
- Maintaining and promoting continual improvement in drawing quality.
- Estimating, monitoring & maintaining engineering / drafting costs.
- Providing engineering support to all company departments.
- Maintaining an accurate and efficient filing system.
- Reviewing Shop Drawings and ensuring accuracy.
Competencies – Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Extensive knowledge and experience designing HVAC systems from conception.
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Professional Engineering License, or, equivalent skill/knowledge.
- Extensive knowledge and experience in the HVAC and Piping trades (10 – 15 years).
- Ability to operate Revit & Auto‑CAD preferred.
- Superior communication skills.

Job Title: Estimator
Reports To: Estimating Manager
Job Description: Prepare portions of contract proposal estimates for one or more disciplines, including the determination of applicable project plans and specifications. Disciplines include sheet metal, piping, plumbing and misc.
Essential Functions:
- Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
- Prepare quotes from vendors and subcontractors.
- Prepare discipline estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work.
- Maintain files of working documents as back-up for estimate figures, including current (accurate) information on prices from suppliers through direct contact, sales brochures, price lists, etc.
- Support other department personnel as required – may include preparing estimates in other disciplines.
- May review design options and recommend best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials.
- Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.
Educational and experience requirements include: 4 year engineering degree or equivalentcombination of technical training and/or experience. 2-5 years estimating, controls and/or engineering experience related to similar facility construction. Advanced knowledge of assigned discipline, estimating techniques and cost control, plus ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems essential.
